Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel

I recently reveled in a weekend at the stylishly designed and recently renovated Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel. It is seamlessly located on the University of Pennsylvania campus, and for the duration of my stay, the experience at the hotel consistently surpassed expectations.

Boasting a total of over 100 rooms and suites, the Sheraton also has a restaurant and bar, 10,979 square feet of elegant space for meetings and social gatherings, out door pool and the Sheraton Club for their VVIP guests (Including me).

Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel is unquestionably the home of blissful moments and lasting memories.

So when I was given the opportunity to travel from New York to Philadelphia to spend a weekend, I was super thrilled.

On arriving at Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel, the view and feel of the lobby area made me feel like royalty. Shortly after arriving, I walked to the front desk to check in – and I must say that the front desk attendant who assisted me (never got her name) was very polite and professional.

After checking in, I made my way up to the 15th floor to my Junior Suite. 550 ft2 to be exact. On entering the room, I wish you were there to see my expression. I literally ran around the room like a child in a candy store. Well, without saying anything more, here is the breakdown of my stay at the Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel.

ROOMS

Separate and apart from the junior suite, which I stayed in. room amenities range from many different categories. From the junior suite that features a plush Sheraton Signature king bed, a living area with a sofa bed, two 37’’ flat LCD televisions, refrigerator, microwave, complimentary bottled water, and bathroom; to the club king room that is outfitted with a plush Sheraton Signature king bed, 37’’ LCD TV, complimentary WiFi, upgrade bath amenities and a bathrobe; to the renovated club double room and traditional double room which are both furnished with two Sheraton Signature double beds, 37” LCD TV and upgraded bath amenities and bathrobe. Then there is the accessible king room and traditional king room – contemporary styled, featuring Sheraton kings beds and travel-enhancing lifestyle amenities, including large desk and 37” LCD TV and a bathroom.

STAFF

Energetic, friendly and helpful are just three words that can be used to describe the staff at Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel. They always seemed so happy to help in any way – and if that was just a business policy, I couldn’t tell, because each person seemed so sincere and supportive. Special mention must be made of Tim from the San Kee Noodle House. His customer service was refreshing, and he always greeted me and the other guest with humor.

FOOD

Firstly, I must say that I was disappointed that there was only one in house restaurant, but my soul was still satisfied with the scrumptious meals. The Sang Kee Noodle House is the house to be for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is opened Sunday – Thursday from 6:30 AM – 10:30 PM and on Friday and Saturday from 6:30 AM – 11:30 PM. The casually chic Asian bistro and bar was an experience for me. For my three nights at the Sheraton, I definitely ate like a Asian and I enjoyed it. With New Years Eve and new years morning being the only exception, dinner and breakfast was respectively had at the Sang Kee Noodle House. I will not go into details about what I had, but I will say that this restaurant offers authentic noodle dishes, rice bowls, Vietnamese Pho, and traditional entrees and starters like Peking Duck and Spicy Kung Pao shrimp with peanuts. You can visit the hotels’ website for dining menus. Also, let us not forget the bar that provided the right cocktails to go with my meal.

OTHER AMENITIES

Not everyone gets to go to a hotel and experience concierge treatment. Well, I do! Because I stayed in the junior suite and upgraded to club level, I had 24-hour access to the lounge. What does this mean? I had access to continental breakfast during my stay and evening hors d’oeuvres Monday through Saturday from 5 – 8 p.m. Also, whenever I would get thirsty, the club lounge that was just above my room was my go to spot to refresh myself. The club lounge also features a computer with complimentary internet, a copier/fax/printer, and office supplies. The view from the lounge overlooking downtown Philadelphia and its surroundings is also breathtaking.

Another disappointment for me was not being able to enjoy the pool, seeing that it was an outdoor pool and it is still wintertime. However, if you so happen to go during the right season, the pool opens from 10 am to 8 pm.

I am not a fan of working out, but the aesthetic of the gym certainly drew me towards the thread mill. The 24-hour gym features Life Fitness Signature Series equipment with heart rate system and consoles with touch-screen technology for entertainment and iPod integration.
